A Flooded House - Every Honeymooner's Nightmare

2/14/2022 (Permalink)

An overflow in the restroom can cause flooding throughout the house, including carpet.

Coming home after a vacation to a flooded house is not the best feeling in the world, but it does happen.

Coming home after a vacation to a flooded house is not the best feeling in the world, but it does happen. SERVPRO of Central Glendale has seen this situation time and time again, and we are here to tell you it's an easy fix. A local couple returning from their honeymoon experienced this watery tragedy. They had just purchased their home, only to discover the plumbing was not as new as they had thought.

As they entered their home, they discovered the carpet was completely soaked. They followed where the water was coming from, only to find it was coming from the restroom. There it was, an overflowing toilet and water everywhere. They called SERVPRO of Central Glendale immediately for help and explained what had happened. Within the hour, our highly trained water damage technicians were there to remove the excess water.

The project manager sketched a blueprint of the entire home and marked every affected area. He split the crew up into two teams, half taking care of the restroom, master bedroom, and hallway, while the other half removed the excess water from the carpet in the living room and entranceway. It took the team of water damage technicians about an hour to completely remove all the water from the hardwood floors and carpet. From there, they began to sanitize, then dry the floors without carpet.

The project manager spoke to the new homeowners and explained they would need to remove the carpet and padding from under it since it was considered category 3 black water. Doing this would also make it easier to dry the floor under it. It would save the floor from any further water damage and prevent mold from growing. They agreed and the crew got to work.

Afterward, the crew set up drying equipment throughout the affected areas of the house. It took six days for each of the rooms to be dried completely. The couple requested a move-out, where our team documented, tagged, and moved the furniture into a secure storage space. When the project was completed, everything was moved back in just the way it was. The new homeowners were thrilled that it was like a brand new home all over again.
